Gopher Tortoise

We still have a gopher tortoise in the lone pine field.   His or her (I don't know which)  burrow is in active use; tortoise resting just inside.

Sheep enjoy chewing their cud in the shade of the scattered crab apple trees.  In the front field, sheep are grazing in the sun and lounging in the shade of the tree.  No surprise.  Since they often poo when they get up after resting and cud chewing, the net effect is a transfer of nutrients from the open fields to the shaded areas.

The four native plum trees survived their first winter and are starting their spring growth.
