Hero in Training

Hero is learning to be with the big flock of ewes.   For the past couple of days I walked him about with me as I brought the sheep back to their evening area.  Today I brought him with me as I put the ewes into the south field, a final grazing before spring planting in this area.  He is off leash for a bit to allow some interaction with the sheep and some correction with me watching him.  He seems to be doing well with the sheep, but is not ready to leave on his own.

Niobe came along, but had stayed in the shade of a big tree.  Here are Niobe and Hero, just before we head back to the barn.  Neighbor Ed's barking dog caught their attention.

Also the yellow Dutch iris look nice.

New Fence

Jeffrey and I have been working on putting a fence around what we call the Coast Electric field for a while now.  All the wood posts are in, driven by the tractor mounted post driver.  All the metal T-posts are in, driven by Jeffrey.

We recently completed construction of the end brace assemblies with the help of the trailer lift Jeffrey built to carry the spool of high tensile wire.

Today we strung out the net fence wire on the east side of the Coast Electric field using an unroller mounted on the forklift behind the gator.

Next steps were to tension the wire.

The tensioned wire ends were wrapped around the end post.
All that remains to do is to attach clips at each of the T-posts.
This is a picture looking from the other end of the fence.  Overall length is just under 660 feet.

Jack and Heidi; Hero

Here are some dog pictures....

Jack and Heidi are working out well together in the north west blueberry field.  They are next to sheep, but not in with them.  Heidi is still young and chases the ewes and we could not have that.  I'm not sure what came over Jack, we had him in with ewes that were lambing where he grabbed a new lamb, killed it, then buried it.   To hide the evidence I guess.  But, we couldn't have that either.   So they are now protecting the flock from a distance.  The tumor on Jack's head was successfully removed.

This is Hero.
He is in with the rams and has them under his control.   When he senses a threat,  he drives them into a corner of their barn and guards them.  So far it seems to be working out okay.
Below the rams are getting their daily ration.

Buggy Transport

The buggy went for a ride today, up to the Poplarville dealer to try and adjust the speed controller.   The buggy goes fast well, just doesn't go slow very easily.  So we will see what they can do.

I used the winch to pull it up into the truck most of the way, then drove it the rest of the way in.
