This fall along with ryegrass, we planted some daikon radish. They are also known as rototiller radish because of their large root and ability to burrow down into the soil, mixing and releasing nutrients in the soil when they die and decay. The radishes are blooming now, the sheep eat the tops, but not ravinishly, so far.
It turns out the radish root is very nutritious for humans to eat. We are going to try some tonight.
